- Santa Claus: “Yep, that's me! Merry X-mas!”
- ― Chibi Minilla meeting Santa Claus (Chibi Godzilla Raids Again episode 52, "Monster Island's Santa")
Santa Claus (TBA TBA), often known simply as Santa (サンタさん Santa-san), is a world-famous folkloric being said to deliver presents to children on Christmas. As a staple of the Christmas season, Santa has been featured or referenced in numerous works of fiction, including the 2015 film Love & Peace, and two Godzilla series: the 2019 web series Godziban and the 2023 animated television series Chibi Godzilla Raids Again.
Name
Santa Claus' name is derived from an anglicization of Sinterklaas, a European folkloric figure brought to North America by Dutch colonists who settled in New Amsterdam―present day New York City—during the 17th century.[1] Sinterklaas was directly based on Saint Nicholas, who was the Bishop of Myra in what is now Turkey during the third and fourth century A.D.,[2] along with a chief inspiration for Santa Claus and from which one of Santa's famous nicknames originates. The first known use of the anglicization "Santa Claus" can be observed in a publication by Rivington's Gazette from December 23, 1773.[3] Father Christmas, a figure from British folklore, also served as an inspiration for Santa and provided another famous nickname.
Appearance
Though usually depicted as a plump, white-bearded man, Chibi Godzilla Raids Again depicts Santa as very closely resembling Chibi Godzilla with the exception of his traditional outfit.
Personality
Santa Claus' usual traits of being generous and jolly are typically seen in his depictions in kaiju media even when there are other differences.
In Love & Peace, more to be added. In Chibi Godzilla Raids Again, Santa's traditional generosity and gift-giving are retained but he is otherwise more eccentric than other depictions of the character. He gives out bizarre presents such as autographs or picture frames, seems to be in the habit of sneaking up on and scaring those he gives presents to, usually abbreviates "Christmas" to "X-mas", and varies between referring to himself in the first and third-person. When he briefly meets Chibi Godzilla, he too is curious about their close resemblance.
Origins
Though Santa Claus is typically portrayed as a magical human who lives at the North Pole, some kaiju media differ from this.
In Love & Peace, Santa is initially a homeless man called Pa but becomes Santa Claus when he wears his outfit and returns to the surface from the sewers. In Godziban, Santa is instead portrayed as being more akin to an occupation rather than an individual, with Grandpa Zilla explaining that he is one of multiple Santas and that he specifically delivers presents to kids who like monsters. In Chibi Godzilla Raids Again, Santa is described by Chibi Mechagodzilla as being in line with traditional takes on the character but has an unexplained close resemblance to the monster Chibi Godzilla.

They flew to the human world, specifically Japan, where after giving presents to various children, they rescued their young relative Kamachi. Thanking the girl who looked after him but aware that he can only overcome his sickness if he leaves in the human world, they took him with them but gave her a present in return. After finishing their gift-giving with the help of Grandpa Hedo and Young Hedo, they returned back to the world as the girl opened her present to reveal a Kamachi keychain.

Chibi Godzilla Raids Again
"Monster Island's Santa"
While discussing Christmas with Chibi Godzilla and Chibi Minilla, Chibi Mechagodzilla mentioned Santa Claus but neither monster had ever heard of Santa despite Monster Island also celebrating Christmas. Chibi Mechagodzilla explained that he brought children presents, Chibi Godzilla finding the idea of a stranger bringing presents out of the blue strange and creepy. Chibi Mechagodzilla explained that Santa wasn't creepy at all and would slide down the chimney in the night to bring these gifts though this only led to Chibi Godzilla branding Santa a thief. Chibi Mechagodzilla admitted it sounded suspicious but stressed that Santa gave gifts and Chibi Minilla asked if Santa visited Monster Island but was saddened when Chibi Godzilla repeated that he'd never heard of the gift-bringer, making Chibi Mechagodzilla regret bringing him up to begin with.
Some time later on Christmas Eve, Chibi Minilla sat by herself in her home and wished that Santa also came to Monster Island. Just as she said this, Santa appeared behind her and wished her a merry Christmas, startling her. She then asked excitedly if he was the real Santa which he confirmed as she was surprised by his abbreviation of Christmas. She asked where he had come from given her home was underwater and didn't have a chimney and he relied by saying he was the "pre-existing" type Santa, making her suspicious as she wondered if he was simply her brother dressed up. He dodged this by interrupting her and announcing he had presents, offering her 1,500 yen since she was still young but she replied that she hoped for something a little more personal. He continued that she may also choose any of the following presents: an autograph from a D-grade celebrity, a single right boxing glove or a distractingly weird picture frame. She asked if the money was still on offer but he gave her all the presents wrapped up in one of her adopted father's socks, Santa explaining that he is said to be all about the sock system. He then pointed out the "amphibious reindeer", a scuba-wearing reindeer, stood outside her window which he uses to travel. He then tells her to be good so she sees him next Christmas, wishes her a merry Christmas and leaves. While she initially concludes that her brother dressed up as Santa, he then appears behind her asking what she's talking about as she realizes she really did meet Santa, amazing Chibi Godzilla as he asks if the amphibious reindeer was their present, Chibi Minilla being shocked that he left it behind.
"I Wanna Meet Santa"

After Chibi Minilla and Chibi Godzilla explained to Chibi Ghidorah and Chibi Rodan who Santa Claus was and why he broke into homes unannounced, Chibi JJ barged into the room and was mistaken for Santa by Chibi Ghidorah. The group decided to stay awake so they would meet Santa but ultimately all except Chibi Minilla fell asleep. At this point, Santa suddenly arrived and once again made Chibi Minilla jump by announcing his presence right behind her and wishing her merry Christmas. Santa explained his arrival with the apparently common phrase "When the snores start comin', Santa comes runnin'" though Chibi Minilla had never heard this before. She admitted that everyone else was asleep as Santa prepared to give her her present – a light-up stick for directing traffic. Chibi Minilla was confused by yet another weird present as Chibi Godzilla suddenly woke up and was surprised by Santa's resemblance to him, with Santa agreeing. As they stared at each other, Chibi JJ woke up and arrested Chibi Godzilla under the assumption he was Santa and therefore a trespasser.
"Monster Island's Year-End Party"
While at the Year-End Party in Chibi Biollante's bar, one of the memories Chibi Godzilla talked about was meeting Santa Claus the previous week.

As U.S. agent Bob Jones presented artist renditions of Godzilla based on supposed eyewitness accounts to his superiors, some of them quickly discredited the idea of a giant monster, jokingly asking if the eyewitness accounts were from "Bigfoot", "the Loch Ness Monster", or "Santa Claus".
