Ultraman (ウルトラマン, real name Lipiah Urutoraman) (リピア, is an alien who appears in the Ripia)2022 Toho, Tsuburaya Productions, and khara film Shin Ultraman. The character first debuted in the 1966 Tsuburaya Productions TV series of the same name.
Name
As the name implies, "Ultraman" is a combination of the English words "ultra," spelled in Japanese as urutora (ウルトラ), and "man" (マン).
In the original Ultraman TV series, Ultraman stated that he had no true name, and Hayata began calling him Ultraman.
In Shin Ultraman, he is tentatively classified as Ultraman by the SSSP as a shortening of Giant Humanoid Creature Ultraman (巨大人型生物ウルトラマン. Zoffy at one point refers to him as "Lipiah" Kyodai Hitogata Seibutsu Urutoraman) (リピア, assumed to be his real name, before correcting himself to Ultraman. Ripia)

Design
This article or section needs to be cleaned up to meet the standards of Wikizilla. |
Ultraman resembles the third Ultraman suit used in the original TV series; however, his physique is slender and tall, and the iconic Color Timer located on his chest is missing, a reference to the original Ultraman design by Tohl Narita.[8] Because he is a CG creation, Ultraman lacks eyeholes for a suit actor to see out of and a dorsal fin to hide the zipper of the suit. His signature chest patterns are thinner and more angular than his original TV counterpart while the lower "pants" design has an indent at the bottom of each thigh.
When Ultraman first lands on Earth, his patterns are a silver that is only slightly darker than the rest of his body. His face is modeled after the suit used in the 1966 TV series' first 13 episodes, which had a slightly open mouth and a decrepit-seeming appearance.

Spacium Ray
Ultraman fires his deadly Specium Ray from his right hand, which must be held vertically with his left arm positioned horizontally just below it. The beam was able to destroy Neronga in a single hit and injured Zarab to the point that he was forced to shed his Ultraman disguise, but was overpowered by Mefilas' own energy attack and failed to breach Zetton's shield.
Ultra Slash
Ultraman can conjure the Ultra Slash by bending his arms towards each other and orienting his right to face up. From there, he throws a serrated ring of energy. It is capable of slicing clean through buildings and was able to kill Zarab instantly. Additionally, Ultraman can create a larger variant of the attack that seperates into eight smaller Ultra Slashes. However, Mefilas was able to swat away the Ultra Slash with little effort and Zetton's force field completely negated it.

Godzilla Battle Line
Introduced during the Visitor from the Planet of Light season in July 2022, alongside Neronga, Ultraman is a four-star Battle Piece that can be a unit or a Leader, requiring 5 energy to summon to the battlefield as the former.
- As a unit
After Ultraman emerges from the ground and lands, he'll slowly walks forwards and will starts to fly, avoiding ground enemy units. Ultraman utilizes the Ultra Slash to hit ground and/or aerial enemy units. Once he reach the Leader, he'll land and keep throwing the Ultra Slash at it in a long distance. He has a base movement speed of 10 on land, a super long reach, a wide search range, and attacks every 2.6 seconds.[9] His base aerial movement speed is unknown.
- As a Leader
Ultraman's special move, the Spacium Ray, requires 4 energy to be performed. It knocks back enemy units in a straight line, dealing 150 damage. After performing the special move, he will increase the ally units attacks power by 20% and movement speed by 30% for 10 seconds. As a Leader, he has a long reach, a wide search range, and attacks every 2.8 seconds.[9]

GigaBash
Ultraman is one of the DLC fighters included in the Ultraman DLC pack. The game also featured Gigaman, an Ultraman-inspired character, along with Godzilla characters in their own DLCs.
However, due to "regional restrictions and licensing agreements", Ultraman and the other characters in the DLC are unavailable in Japan and China.

Ready Player One
Using the Beta Capsule that Akihude had given him, Wade Watts transformed into Ultraman. He unleashed a devastating flurry of attacks: a Specium Ray to knock Mechagodzilla over, a flying kick to its spine, and an Ultra-Slice to cut it in half. Sorrento ejected in Mechagodzilla's head, but Wade shot him down with another Specium Ray.
Trivia
- The first look at Ultraman's design was not in a trailer, but rather an image during the opening ceremony of Tsuburaya Convention 2019 on December 13.[10]
- Much like Anno and Higuchi's interpretation of Godzilla, Ultraman resembles an earlier concept from his debut outing. While Godzilla has a similar head to the maquette used for the iconic image of Godzilla biting a train, Ultraman is directly based off Tohl Narita's 1983 painting "The Incarnation of Truth, Justice, and Beauty".[11]
- Ultraman was considered for the Ready Player One film adaptation, but legal issues over the international rights of Ultraman at the time prevented that from happening; the film would have the Iron Giant from the The Iron Giant take his role instead. However, he was referenced by Dito's two-minute time limit when assuming the form of the RX-78-2 Gundam, referencing Ultraman's three-minute time limit of being on Earth. [12]
- However, Ultraman does appears in GUNSHIP's "Art3mis & Parzival" music video, released a few weeks before the film, where Wade transforms into Ultraman and battles Mechagodzilla, using the Showa Mechagodzilla design in the video. The video also features a cameo of the Iron Giant as a selectable robot.
- The GigaBash character Gigaman was inspired by Ultraman. The two would meet in the GigaBash Ultraman DLC trailer, which also featured Ultraman Tiga, Alien Baltan and Camearra.
