When Abaddon comes back, I hope one of our friends--like the King of the Monsters--will be ready to play exterminator. Otherwise, all of humanity will end up in Abaddon's web.

Abaddon (アバドン Abadon) is an arachnid Titan who was first alluded to on a map in the 2019 Monsterverse film Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and was one of the many monsters that ravaged the globe under King Ghidorah's command. It made its first physical appearance in the video game Kong: Survivor Instinct, where it took over the downtown area of an American coastal city and dueled Kong. Titan Truth Podcast host Bernie Hayes expounded on its origins in the "Abaddon" comic in the Monsterverse Declassified anthology.
Name
Abaddon is named after an angel of the same name from the Book of Revelation who is said to command an army of locusts. The name is derived from the Hebrew ’Ăḇaddōn (אֲבַדּוֹן), meaning "destruction" or "doom". It is designated Titanus Abaddon by Monarch.
Design
Abaddon resembles a cross between a giant spider and a human skull. Its head is reminiscent of a human's upper jaw in shape with eight large, white eyes on both sides of it. Abaddon has a large vertebrate-esque mouth that sports two large fangs and a row of pointed teeth. It has two large depressions on both sides of its thorax, resembling human eye sockets, and a third one at the center resembling a nasal socket. Connecting its legs to its body are several artery-like structures. Abaddon's legs are long and spindly with pointed tips that resemble those of black widow spiders. It has an additional set of smaller protrusions on the back of its abdomen that are similar in appearance to spinnerets, and its abdomen resembles those of cork-lid trapdoor spiders in shape. Abaddon's body is gray in color with crimson markings on its body and legs, as well as a large orange marking on its abdomen.
Origins
Abaddon has been known to humanity since at least the time of the Nazca, who used it as the basis for one of the Nazca lines (presumably "the Spider"). Abaddon was evidently regarded as a threat by the later Inca Empire, as an Incan inscription discovered by Monarch inside of a cave beneath the Nazca lines warned of the Titan. According to the Hyenas' chief scientific officer, an ancient South American inscription (possibly the same one discovered by Monarch) could be translated to read, "You cannot hide. Abaddon's malevolence sees with eight all-knowing eyes." Furthermore, the officer posited that "there exists evidence" to suggest that Abaddon is the origin of all arachnid species on the planet.
Podcaster and conspiracy theorist Bernie Hayes also conjectures that ancient stories of Arachne from Greece, Jorōgumo from Japan, and Anansi from Ghana "can all be traced back to Abaddon."

Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Abaddon was among the many Titans awakened by King Ghidorah's alpha call in 2019 after it remained dormant in Monarch Outpost 77 beneath Devils Tower, Wyoming. A Monarch monitor indicated it moved eastward over the course of its rampage. It was pacified when Madison Russell activated the Orca in Fenway Park.
Abilities
Physical abilities
In Kong: Survivor Instinct, Abaddon jabbed repeatedly at David Martin with its sharp legs and tried to snatch him up in its jaws. When it battled Kong, Abaddon grabbed him with its legs and bit him on the shoulder before he threw it backwards.
Webbing
Abaddon is capable of spinning webs like a spider, though appropriately gigantic for its size. It uses these to capture prey (which is known to include humans and even elephants), as well as to ward off enemies. Abbadon is also capable of shooting web threads from its mouth and retracting them to pull any victim it catches directly into its jaws.
Burrowing
Abaddon is fossorial, digging underground tunnels which allow it to travel the globe. It may also use these tunnels to hide, coupled with its ability to remain motionless for up to centuries at a time.
Proliferation
Abaddon possesses internal egg sacs which hatch into superspecies called Plague Weavers. The Weavers are kept inside of its body until reaching maturity, after which they emerge from the "eye sockets" of its skull-like thorax. Legends describe this action as Abbadon "weeping" its offspring into the world. Abaddon can also lay eggs externally; according to Monarch, it "travels the globe, weeping egg sacs to replenish the world's spider population," though illustrations accompanying Bernie Hayes' theories in Monsterverse Declassified show it depositing individual eggs which hatch into large spiders and Mother Longlegs.
Army
According to Monarch, Abaddon commands an "army" of "soldiers", the most formidable of which are the Plague Weavers. It controls these Weavers through some form of psychic communication, the study of which Monarch believes may allow for the development of technology "functionally indistinguishable from telepathy."
In Kong: Survivor Instinct, huge spiders resembling black widows, different from the Weavers, can also be observed crawling around the areas that Abaddon has ravaged, though it is unclear whether they are soldiers. Both Monarch and the Chief Scientific Officer of the Hyenas even believe that Abaddon's influence extends to all arachnids on Earth, which lie in wait for its commands.
In Monsterverse Declassified's alternate depictions of world stories, a spawn of Abaddon crawls into the mouth of a dead or incapacitated Arachne and takes control of her body, another lures in a man by puppeteering a woman's body with strings of web, and yet another lures in a lioness by hiding in the body of an African swine before bursting out from its head.
Durability
In Kong: Survivor Instinct, Abaddon quickly recovered from a punch to the face by Kong.

Kong: Survivor Instinct
Abaddon was drawn to an American coastal city due to the sudden emergence of Kong from Hollow Earth. Abaddon and its Plague Weaver offspring took over the city's central plaza, turning it into a staging ground for the Titan's inevitable clash against Kong. While David Martin was searching through the ruined city for any leads on the whereabouts of his daughter Stacy, he caught glimpses of Abaddon and dispatched many of its Plague Weavers. Eventually, David found a scientist named Omisha Bhat, a scientist working with the Hyenas mercenary group. He questioned Omisha if she knew where Stacy was, but before she could answer, Abaddon arrived and ensnared her with its webs, dragging her off to its lair. With no other leads, David embarked on a mission to find Omisha. Using the ORCA Σ, David tricked Abaddon into destroying a portion of its own webbing to clear a path for him. However, once he entered the nearby building, Abaddon caught on and proceeded to try and stab David with its legs. David managed to escape Abaddon and made his way through the skyscrapers leading to Abaddon's lair, where he found Omisha hanging from the ceiling. Omisha pleded for his help, but David was more concerned with finding his daughter. He promised to free Omisha if she told him where Stacy was, but she could give a clear answer, Abaddon appeared again. Realizing that she was doomed, she told David to take her keycard and head for the sewers under the park. Abaddon then scooped up Omisha and devoured her. The Titan took note of David as he tried to leave and started chasing him down, smashing through walls with its head. Eventually, David managed to evade Abaddon once more.
Arriving at the park, David saw no entrance into the sewers, and pondered making one using the ORCA Σ again. Abaddon touched down just then, catching him completely by surprise. It jabbed at him with its legs, creating a hole down to the sewer. Before it could impale him, Kong intervened, greeting Abaddon with a punch to the face. Abaddon recovered quickly and charged at Kong, stabbing at his sides with its legs while also sinking its teeth into the Great Ape's shoulder. Kong tosses Abaddon off him and the Titans continued to brawl as David ventured into the sewers using the hole Abaddon made.
Later on, as David made his way to the city bridge, Kong walked right over him. David then commented that Kong must have defeated Abaddon and forced it to retreat elsewhere.

Trivia
- Abaddon debuted the same year as another arthropod superspecies which incorporates a skull into its design: the Skull Ant from the mobile game Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers.
- Abaddon is not the first arachnid monster to have been Kong's foe in the Monsterverse; he previously wiped out of a group of Mother Longlegs in the comic Skull Island: The Birth of Kong #4.
- Abaddon's design is similar to the Skulltula enemy from The Legend of Zelda video game series, as both are arachnids with a skull-shaped feature on their thoraxes.
- Abaddon's initial place of rest, Monarch Outpost 77 beneath Devils Tower, Wyoming, is possibly a reference to the 1977 American sci-fi movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, in which Devils Tower is a central location. Devil's Tower is also the subject of myths in multiple Native American cultures regarding a colossal bear that created the butte's unusual texture with its powerful claws.
