Which version of the story is accurate is anyone's guess. But what is known is which version Cleopatra accepted as truth. She was a member of a Mothra cult, you see... who, yes, believed it was that kaiju whose mighty wings parted the Red Sea under Moses' command that day. And who worshipped Mothra as a goddess as penance for her smiting their people. Even after it was believed she left Egypt.

Mothra (モスラ Mosura) is
Name
- Main article: Mothra#Name.
The name "Mothra" is the suffixation of "-ra" (a common last syllable in kaiju names) to "moth." Since the Japanese language does not have dental fricatives, it is approximated Mosura in Japanese.

Personality
Mothra is a defender of the Earth who is also protective of those who worship her; Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons II - Sons of Giants #3's description states that she "appears in times of need".[1] Outside of her alleged role in the Plagues of Egypt where she helped the Israelites escape Egypt, this is most clearly seen in her battles with the Xiliens and their kaiju pawns starting with King Ghidorah's attack on Rome.
Though seemingly inclined to attack other kaiju on sight, Mothra also demonstrates the same ability characteristic of fellow Earth monsters like Godzilla to recognize greater threats and work together with allies, seen both in Ancient Rome with Godzilla, Rodan and Hedorah despite their initial fight and it being implied the four had previously held grudges against each other and in 1954 when she joined an army of Earth monsters against the Xiliens.
Origins
Mothra's first known recorded appearance comes in the form of Ancient Egyptian tablets found in the tomb of Antony and Cleopatra which tells a version of the tale of the Plagues of Egypt. In this take, Mothra was summoned to help Moses and the Israelites on their exodus from Egypt by parting the Red Sea to allow them to cross, then denying Pharaoh and his army the opportunity to chase after them. A Mothra cult which Cleopatra was a member of came around some time after this. President Thomas Jefferson admitted that this is not necessarily an accurate take on the tale but added that it was the version Cleopatra believed in, shrouding Mothra's origins in mystery.
Therefore Mothra's first known definitive appearance in-universe came when she appeared in Ancient Rome and assisted Godzilla, Rodan and Hedorah against King Ghidorah.

Abilities
Flight
Mothra is naturally capable of flight and almost never spends time on ground, always remaining in flight during battles against foes such as Megalon.
Winds
Mothra flapped her wings to part the Red Sea to allow Moses and the Israelites to cross and then seemingly stopped to prevent Pharaoh and his army to try to do the same. Unlike fellow Earth monster Rodan, she never used this ability while doing battle with another kaiju.

Powder
Mothra appeared to employ a orange powder while in battle with Hedorah, sending the smog monster backwards.
Silk
Much like the Monsterverse Mothra, this Mothra is capable of using silk even as an imago and briefly wrapped up King Ghidorah before the dragon easily broke free of these restraints.
Antennae laser
Though never used in her appearances in Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons II - Sons of Giants, Mothra is shown to possess an antennae laser in Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens and it was her weapon of choice during the 1954 Xilien invasion, employing it against Xilien UFOs in both Cairo and Monster Island as well as against Hedorah probes and Megalon.
Intelligence
Mothra showed an ability to tell apart potential allies and greater threats, deliberately allying with all the other Earth monsters she encountered as well as both Hedorah and Jet Jaguar even despite any previous disagreements when facing the Xilien forces and the malevolent kaiju under their control such as King Ghidorah and Megalon; though she did not have any noticeable interactions with King Ghidorah upon his being revived by the Simians as Frankenghidorah, the two fought on the same side during the final battle on Monster Island. She also showed some degree of strategic intelligence when she truly cooperated with Godzilla, Rodan and Hedorah as they successfully restrained King Ghidorah.
Durability
Mothra demonstrated some degree of durability, recovering quickly from a kick from Rodan and withstanding a drill jab from Megalon. King Ghidorah's gravity beams also seemed to have little effect on Mothra when the monster entered the battle by blasting gravity beams at all four monsters already present, Mothra and the others simply getting back up soon after.
Weaknesses
Mothra stood little chance against King Ghidorah and was taken out of the fight when the monster broke out of her silk restraints and smacked her with his wing, only recovering some time later alongside her allies. Mothra was also captured and imprisoned by the Xiliens on Monster Island, having presumably been easily defeated in battle by the Xilien trump card Mecha-King Ghidorah much like her fellow Earth monsters.

Trivia
- This Mothra is the only one to appear in multiple IDW Publishing comics but not have Shobijin priestesses.
- This Mothra incarnation is unusual in being allies with both Hedorah and King Ghidorah, though she started off as enemies with both of them.
- While currently the only take on Mothra herself to show the ability to part a large body of water, the related character Rainbow Mothra had previously done so in Rebirth of Mothra 2 (1997).
