Godzilla (ゴジラ Gojira) is a giant monster who appears in the 2025 manga series Godzilla Galaxy Odyssey. Having menaced humanity for decades since 1954, Godzilla became an inadvertent ally of mankind when he appeared to do battle with the space kaiju Volga and successfully killed the monster. As the best chance humanity had of resisting the aliens who controlled Volga and other space beasts, plans were made to take Godzilla to space by placing him inside of a large craft called the Goten and he was later unleashed on the planet Floris to fight several monsters.
Name
- See also: Godzilla#Name.
Godzilla's Japanese name, Gojira (ゴジラ), comes from a combination of the Japanese approximation of "gorilla" (ゴリラ gorira) and kujira (クジラ), the Japanese word for "whale."
Though consistently referred to as Godzilla, Miyu Kaido also jokingly calls him a dragon in EP:009 "Dragon in the Heavens."
Design
Godzilla's design in this manga series is highly reminiscent of multiple Millennium era Godzilla designs, notably the version from Godzilla Final Wars, with a moderately bulky build. However, there are notable differences from past incarnations as well. He has three rows of dorsal fins, with the middle row especially long. The points are crystalline in appearance, jutting out from rough, leaf-like bases. Shorter points also jut out from the flanks of the dorsal fins. His forearms are lined with prominent scales similar to Godzilla Ultima, with pointed tips. Sharp, upward-facing, recurved spikes run from the bottoms of his shins to his knees.

Origins
Godzilla first appeared in 1954, a product of nuclear testing, and had been a threat to mankind since then. Eight years prior to the events of the story, Godzilla devastated the Shinjuku ward of Tokyo.

Godzilla Galaxy Odyssey
EP:001 "Contact"
Eight years ago, Godzilla destroyed the Shinjuku ward of Tokyo in an attack that left Miyu Kaido a survivor, the rest of her family having died in the attack. Since then, she had become a researcher at the Giant Life Form Research Lab and briefly spoke to her teacher about her work regarding Godzilla and whether or not she hated Godzilla but had to leave early due to being summoned by the Galactic Treaty Organization (GATO) regarding a new monster named Volga.
When Volga landed in Tachikawa and began rampaging, GATO received another alarm: Godzilla had appeared in Sagami Bay.
EP:002 "Godzilla Lands"
Continuing his route from Sagami Bay, Godzilla passed through Shichirigahama and Chigasaki on a path estimated to lead towards Tachikawa. While plans were made to evacuate civilians in Godzilla's path and activate anti-Godzilla systems, Kaido disagreed with the latter idea and instead proposed they allow Godzilla on his path and fight Volga. Godzilla then arrived in Tachikawa and struck Volga with atomic breath after it shrugged off Anti Giant Biological Missiles (AGBMs) and prepared to use its energy beam against unevacuated civilians, with Volga losing its left arm as a result. Though Volga attempted to flee, it suddenly turned around and fired its beam at Godzilla, who shrugged off the attack altogether. Godzilla and Volga then traded physical blows as Kaido commented on Volga's strange behavior and how it seemed to be following orders from an unknown influence.
EP:003 "Anomaly"
Godzilla and Volga continued to trade blows as Kaido continued to watch the battle and speculate as to whether or not the UFO which had summoned Volga was responsible for its behavior. She then noticed the very same UFO on Volga's back, realizing it must have been close enough to the monster to be in range of Volga's electromagnetic properties. The UFO was then destroyed and shot a missile into the monster's neck as it fell off its back, seemingly mutating the kaiju as it sprouted wings once again and regenerated the stump on its arm into a whip-like appendage. Volga then struck Godzilla in the neck with its whip, prompting roars of pain, and then repeated this attack immediately after, knocking Godzilla to the ground. As Godzilla lay on the ground, Volga tried to strike Godzilla again but the monster king grabbed the limb with his hand and slammed the alien into the ground. As Volga lay on the ground, Godzilla charged his atomic breath.
EP:004 "This Feeling"
Volga attempted to return to its feet but was destroyed by Godzilla's atomic breath, leaving only its scythe claw remaining. Godzilla stood victorious as Kaido remembered the Shinjuku attack eight years before and realized that she felt Godzilla and the destruction associated with his attacks was beautiful despite the natural fear and sadness at the time, also feeling shame for having these thoughts towards Godzilla after he'd killed her family. She continued that she felt she was a burden and compared herself to Godzilla for this reason.
Overhearing GATO staff members over the radio discussing reports of space kaiju attacking other sectors and planets, Kaido suggested they bring Godzilla to space to fight off these monsters.
EP:005 "Something's Wrong"
A news report described how after defeating Volga, Godzilla destroyed Sagamihara City before returning to Sagami Bay. Miyu Kaido later discussed the plan to bring Godzilla to space with General Yoshikuni in response to the attacks on the planets H-N567 and H-1632, detailing two major issues with the plan: if it was even possible to place Godzilla on a spaceship and how to do it safely. They also discussed how the enemy, who Yoshikuni said had been dubbed "Nebula", had transported their kaiju. Leaving the meeting, Kaido ran into Second Lieutenant Shinya Osaki, who had earlier given her a lift to the GATO headquarters in his fighter jets, and they discussed Godzilla; while he thanked her for coming up with using Godzilla to defeat Volga, he admitted he wasn't happy with the idea of using Godzilla in future battles as he voiced a personal dislike of the monster but acknowledged they were currently powerless against Godzilla.
Kaido and other GATO members later attended a meeting further discussing means to transport Godzilla, discussing the apparatus used by Nebula, how to manage Godzilla in the long-term, and Godzilla being resistant to mind-control. A livestream of Godzilla swimming back to Odo Island was also displayed which also showed Godzilla had regenerated from his injuries; while watching this, Kaido realized there was a way to transport Godzilla. Detailing this to Yoshikuni, he reluctantly agreed and asked her to be present for the trial run next day for the ship perfect for the plan: the Goten.
EP:006 "The Operation Begins"
The plan to use the Goten to transport Godzilla continued, with Rear Admiral Alan FitzRoy greeting Kaido and Yoshikuni among other GATO members and briefly discussing Godzilla with them.
Two weeks later, the crew aboard the Goten initiated the operation. Osaki and other pilots took off in fighter jets and travelled to Odo Island where Godzilla was in a dormant state, firing AGBMs at the monster to wake him for his dormant state after completing a brief analysis. Godzilla was woken up by this and followed the jets from the island, making his way into the sea. While he was away from the island, the Goten used Nebula's Kaiju Seizure and Relocation Devices to teleport the entirety of Odo Island inside the ship; this meant that when Godzilla would be teleported inside the Goten afterwards, he would assume he was on Odo Island and resume dormancy. However, when the process of capturing Odo Island was at 40%, a problem arose in the form of Godzilla changing course to return to Odo Island earlier than expected.
EP:007 "Guest"
In response to Godzilla attempting to return home, Osaki's fleet of fighter jets fired upon the monster king with more AGBMs which had no effect outside of annoyance and he continued his advance. The Goten's Maser Cannons then fired warning shots nearby but these also had no effect on his swimming speed. FitzRoy then decided to directly fire on Godzilla with the Maser Cannons after confirming with Kaido that Godzilla wouldn't be too harmed by the weapons, Godzilla being barely affected by the full force of the weaponry much to the shock of all watching other than Kaido. Angered, Godzilla converted the heat energy generated by this attack into a blast of atomic breath which he fired towards the Goten, being so powerful that it caused strain against the ship's force-field, the Maser Field.
EP:008 "Capture Deathmatch"
Godzilla continued to fire his atomic breath against the Maser Field and began to destroy it. However, Osaki crashed his Startail VI into the monster's face, causing the breath attack to move away from the target and fire into the distance. In order to protect Osaki from Godzilla's rage, the Goten's Maser Cannons fired around the monster to create pillars of water which would obscure his vision and prevent him from spotting the pilot. Godzilla quickly lost interest and continued his advance towards Odo Island, which had now been fully teleported onboard the Goten. As the crew prepared to allow Godzilla to travel a little further to be in range of Odo Island when he was transported so as to make him assume he'd arrived on the island but not enough to see the former location of the island, Godzilla prepared a blast of atomic breath which he fired towards the Goten even despite the Maser Cannons creating pillars of water to obscure his vision. However, he was confused by the Goten having disappeared after the water pillars vanished, not realizing that it had evaded him by travelling underwater.
With Godzilla now in an acceptable range from Odo Island's former range, the Goten fired missiles to create yet more water pillars obscuring his vision. When Godzilla charged his atomic breath as a counterattack, the Kaiju Capture Devices were launched and Godzilla was successfully teleported aboard the ship, soon returning to his dormant state as he recognized the island. With this success, they could now take Godzilla to space.
EP:009 "Dragon in the Heavens"
With Godzilla aboard the Goten, the ship began the journey into space and departed Earth's atmosphere to travel to planet H-L632, better known as "Floris", where an emergency signal had been broadcast just before communications were severed. As the Goten travelled through the void using spatial relocation, reports confirmed that Godzilla had not reacted to this and remained dormant in the loading bay, Kaido being fascinated as to Godzilla being unaffected by the journey. Later, when Kaido and Osaki travelled down to Floris, Osaki commented that a dragon might attack them in this unknown space and Kaido responded by joking that they already had a dragon in the Goten.
EP:014 "Doctor Mantis' Research"
After being stranded on Floris due to the bird-like monster Galdra and taken to the only remaining base by Second Lieutenant Natsumi Ayashiro, Kaido and Osaki explained what had happened with Ayashiro, Commander Niels "Doctor Mantis" Kamahara and Frigate Captain Seiichi Sekitou. Sekitou was shocked at the decision to take Godzilla to space and initially questioned it until Kaido pointed out it had been her idea, Sekitou immediately apologizing, while Kamahara laughed at the irony of having to use Godzilla even in spite of humanity's technological advances and openly stated his desire to study Godzilla. Osaki stopped him by pointing out that this would be difficult as Godzilla was still on the Goten which couldn't move down due to Galdra, and the discussion moved to fighting Galdra.

Miyu Kaido's Giant Creature Research Reports
"Consideration of the Dormant State of Godzilla"
Miyu Kaido talked about Godzilla's dormant state and how for unknown reasons, Godzilla only enters this state while on Odo Island in the Pacific Ocean. Kaido planned to use drones and satellites to monitor Godzilla as part of research into this behavior while also hoping to examine the island for any unique geological or biological factors.
"Godzilla course prediction and verification of result (actual course)"
A report written by Tomomitsu Kuji, operations officer of GATO, described Godzilla's route from Shichirigahama to Tachigawa seemingly in response to Volga's appearance, the first time he'd emerged in eight years. The report further described the similarities in Godzilla's predicted and actual routes, and how giant creatures seem to avoid walking on soft ground that doesn't support their weight.
"Living Rodan Found!?"
GATO was mentioned to have organized a new research team to study both the dormant volcano Villarrica believed to be home to a living Rodan and Godzilla's recent movements.

Energy absorption
Godzilla reabsorbed the thermal energy generated by the Goten's Maser Cannons directly striking him, using said energy to power his atomic breath. He repeated this later on Floris, where after firing his atomic breath into the ground to scatter it into multiple small beams which destroyed all the Mesolucias and small-scale Drygores attacking him, Godzilla reabsorbed the thermal energy generated by this action through his epidermis.
Regeneration
The research report "Electrical Stimulation of Godzilla's Skin Tissue" describes Godzilla's cells as having a high self-repair capacity, repairing quickly even after exposure to high-voltage electricity. This is also seen in EP:005 "Something's Wrong" when a livestream of Godzilla travelling towards Odo Island is displayed, with the characters commenting on how Godzilla has no visible wounds after his fight with Volga.
Self-mutation/evolution (?)
The research reports "Effect of High-Voltage Electric Current Attack on Godzilla" and "Electrical Stimulation of Godzilla's Skin Tissue" both describe Godzilla as having more durability when the reports were written than it did when the U.S. military used "lightning strikes" against the monster more than a decade beforehand. This is also mentioned by Miyu Kaido in EP:007 "Guest" as she describes Godzilla as being more durable during the events of the story than eight years prior.
