Anguirus is a species of giant Ankylosaurus-like kaiju who appear in the continuity of the GODZILLA anime trilogy.

Name

Main article: Anguirus#Name.

Anguirus's Japanese name, Angirasu (アンギラス), comes from the Japanese spelling of the name of the dinosaur genus Ankylosaurus (アンキロサウルス,   Ankirosaurusu), upon which the monster's design is based. The name was chosen from several names proposed by employees of Toho during production of Godzilla Raids Again.

Anguirus IV was mentioned to have a carapace on its back as it had been partially destroyed by Godzilla. Whether it was ever used offensively is unknown.

Weaknesses

Both Anguirus I and Rodan I were killed by the Chinese bioweapon Hedorah. Anguirus IV was later killed by Godzilla alongside Baragon II and Varan II.
